"a darkly beautiful record chronicling the dissolution of his parents marriage. During its recording Fitzsimmons split from his wife as well, so don’t expect a party, but do prepare yourself for some rather affecting, sparse nu-folk."

Goodnight in Acoustic Magazine

Goodnight is not William Fitzsimmons' newest record, indeed it was released in 2006, but it is a rare treat. Quirky in the extreme, the songs mix delicate fingerstyle guitar with backwashes of unexpected orchestration, and electronic beats and artefacts. It's the lyrics that really bite you, however; Fitzsimmons seems largely concerned with betrayal and blame, moving seamlessly from betrayer to betrayed, accuser to guilty part. His half-whispered are almost incantational; somewhere between prayer and pillow talk, and the effect is haunting. You could call Goodnight one-paced, but you won't, because you'll already be enchanted.
