All The Ghosts in Blues and Soul Magazine

Blues & Soul
Emrys Baird

There's a lovely sense of britishness about this girl, not only is she a talent vocally but a strong songstress too.

Our Gywnnie draws us into her enchanting world of folk jazz ballad wizardry and introspection and this special selection of songs should propell her further into the limelight. There's a freshness and joyous simplicity to the work and some excellent playing from her crack ace backing band, the grooves are inventive and the double bass purrs sweetly.Highlights for me are 'My Narrow Man' stripped to the core with raspy bass in the forefront also 'Lorelei,' a brechtian drama made startling listening too- but my absolute favourite is the heavy acoustic blues inflected 'My Mini And Me' with it's evocative chorus "take me away"! Well girl i'd love to, just don't tell Beth Orton!Closing the album is the stunning piano led ballad that pulls at your heart strings immediately 'Some Days I Forget.' Well we won't be forgetting this peach of an album - One to definately watch out for!
