All The Ghosts in Beat Surrender

Gwyneth Herbert is only 27 years old which I do need to remember, but at times in the past I can't help but feel she has flattered to deceive slighty....until now when she has delivered her best and most compelling work to date in my opinion.

All The Ghosts is the sound of a young lady who has more than found her feet, she has them firmly planted in concrete now and with that comes the confidence to experiment more with her sound and songwriting, resulting in her most complete package to date.

It opens with a standard enough track in So Worn Out, after that though things really lift off with Annie's Yellow Bag and her mixture of jazzed up folk is totally intoxicating, culminating in the highlight for me, the cowboy blues of My Mini And Me, a stomping track that I couldn't imagine her producing two or three years ago.

It's brilliant to see her developing in this way and the forthcoming journey she takes us on could be even more exciting still.
