ANTONIO FORCIONE
Assembly Hall, Main Hall
Five shows only, 15 - 19 August
This year, multi-award winner Antonio Forcione brings his new project Sketches of Africa to Edinburgh as well sharing the stage with two phenomenal, dynamic musicians.
Sketches of Africa is inspired by recent travels to the Continent and is Antonio's first new recording in five years. A beautifully captured concoction of world music with an emphasis on what African music does best: rhythm and melody.
Antonio Forcione is a master of his game, not only as one of the great acoustic guitarists but globally respected for his compositions. This new album buzzes with originality, craftsmanship and passion.†This is an album low on instrumental self-indulgence and packed with stunning melodies and toe-tapping beats such as the evocative Madiba's Jive, composed as a tribute to Mandela.
Sharing the stage with Antonio are two other world-renowned virtuosos: Adriano Adewale (composer/percussion) from Brazil and Seckou Keita (Chora/vocals) from Senegal. As a group, these three musicians are not just top of their game but the front-men of their own bands.
Audiences are guaranteed a powerful and dynamic show of wit, personality and musical virtuosity.†
"A one-off musical sensation.† Unmissable" The Scotsman
"A major international guitar virtuoso .. one of those very few entertainers who can cast a spell on almost any audience ... remarkable personal magnetism"†† JAZZ FM
"One of the world's most highly regarded guitarists .. this is John Martyn for a new generation who, when he isn't using his guitar as a percussive instrument is literally reinventing it.† The guy is brilliant."†† Edinburgh Evening News
'Few acoustic guitarists can match Antonio Forcione for sheer instrumental virtuosity but fewer still come close to him as a composer.' Jazzwise Magazine
