STUART MCCALLUM
'Distilled'
"The music suggests the feel of
the Cinematic Orchestra, Brian Eno and In a Silent Way-era Miles Davis"
The Guardian
"Guitarist
Stuart McCallum's compositions are exemplary of everything that is exciting
about new British jazz." Jazzwise
Distilled, McCallum's brilliant third album, and first for Naim,
is a sublime slice of ambient-jazz-electonica,
based on the 'distillation' of musical ideas. The distinctive, ethereal
and atmospheric sound of McCallum's guitar is central in the evocative
and spacious new album Distilled, which exhibits far-flung influences from Wes Montgomery to Bjork, Flying Lotus to Bon Iver and James Blake to Bill Frisell.
Since launching to a sell-out crowd at the Manchester Jazz Festival
in July, with fourteen piece ensemble (see the stunning youtube footage
below), McCallum's unique sound is now gathering support as diverse as Giles Peterson on BBC R1, Jamie Cullum on BBC R2 and even BBC R3's Late Junction.
Stuart has also been invited to support the Mercury nominated Portico Quartet at London's Southbank during London Jazz Festival on Saturday 19th November '11.
