Anderson's adoring chordal style of piano is the perfect match for Sciubba; a chanteuse whose vocal is bursting with a refreshing vibrancy. If only all jazz singers were this good.
Sciubba's collaboration with Chris Anderson was a unique experience: fortunately one that can be relived again and again on record. Sciubba had an explosive power to disarm a fellow jazz singer with twice as much experience as her from ten paces. But she had a subtle side, one that suited Anderson's highly identifiable style of piano and also the rhythmic musings of legendary free jazz drummer Billy Higgins. Who like Sciubba, could go all hard-bop on us if he wanted to.
Anderson's duo encounter with Sabina granted an opportunity to explore original material and well as standards, several of which were mutual favourites of Anderson or Sciubba.
Chris Anderson passed away in 2008 in New York and is dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to encounter his distinctive style.
Billy Higgins passed away seven years prior to Anderson at the age of 64. The only recording of this super-foursome, which also included the solid bass playing of David Williams, was one of the last recordings that Higgins made.
