The American born, London based neo-classical minimalist composer is unique in her forward thinking and original take on live performance and one of the first artists to win a creative live concert endorsement from Naim Audio.
Passion
and commitment are words often overused when describing musicians but having
dedicated the best part of 15 years of her life to creating a body of work for the
piano, Lola Perrin certainly fits in to this category. Born in America but now
based in London, Lola started to play the piano at age four. 'Music picks you,'
she says, 'A born musician has no choice. You're completely miserable if you're
not doing it.' Ever since striking those first keys Lola's
natural affinity to music has been the driving passion behind all of her work
in teaching, composing and performing.
Lola
describes her minimalist piano compositions, which blur the boundaries between
jazz and classical genres, as ‘Rave Music for Butterflies'. Her tracks appear on UK TV broadcasts and European & USA
radio playlists. Lola has been published by Boosey & Hawkes; "Breakfast in Milestown" in Elena Riu's
R&B Collection and has created works after Edward Hopper, Ansel
Adams, Rachel Whiteread, Nazarin Montag, Roberto Battista, Carsten Hoeller,
Hussein Chalayan, correspondence with Dr Martin Coath and writings by Hanif
Kureishi.
Lola's prowess as a
performer is unquestionable, having performed extensively in the UK in recent years at venues
including the Design Museum, London's Jazz Café, Latitude Festival, Henham Park
2010, Southbank and the London Jazz Festival. She has also played to
audiences at many great venues across Europe and her compositions have drawn
comparisons with Debussy and Ravel but have telltale trademarks that show a
clearer debt to minimalism.
On top of
her work as a concert pianist one of Lola's great passions is to share her
musical experience with piano students and other concert pianists. She has
released her entire catalogue of works (over 60 compositions) to the general
public and actively supports music students and trainee pianists with the ‘Naim
Audio Lola Perrin Piano Competition' which rewards young musicians and gives
them valuable experience performing her works.
