Description

Gimse is a dazzling young musician who has established himself as one of Europe's leading international pianists and championed Norway's increasingly youthful crop of extraordinary musicians.

Biography

Håvard Gimse was born in 1966 at Kongsvinger, Norway, and has established himself as one of Scandinavia's leading international pianists.

New York Lincoln Center debut in 1994 with the Riverside Symphony was given a splendid New York Times review. He has received excellent reviews for his accounts as a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra on tour in Great Britain, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra on tour in Austria, and recently with the Janacek Philharmonic in Tokyo.


After gaining his Diploma at Hochschule der Kunste Berlin in 1995, he studied with professor Jiri Hlinka in Norway.

Håvard Gimse has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Welsh National Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, Belgian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony, and orchestras throughout Scandinavia and Latin America, with conductors such as Berglund, Wallberg, Segerstam and Soustrot.

International festival engagements include Valdemossa Chopin Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Bath Festival, Kuhmo Festival, Angouleme Piano Festival, Flandern Festival Belgium, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and the Cervantino Festival in Mexico.

Since 1997 Gimse has been an assistant program manager of the Oslo Chamber Music Festival. As a chamber musician, Gimse has performed in the Wigmore Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Suk Hall Prague and Konzerthaus Berlin.

Håvard Gimse was awarded the prestigious Grieg Prize in 1996, 1st prize for the Jugend Musiziert in 1987 and the Steinway Prize in 1995.
